Bonnie
A. Berns,
a native New Yorker, graduated from New York University,
where she achieved the honor of Phi Beta Kappa and received
the Founder's Day Award for high scholastic achievement. Ms.
Berns graduated from Antioch School of Law in Washington,
D.C. in June 1977. In 1978, she started her own practice in
Naples, Italy where she practiced until 1980.
Then Ms. Berns moved to Florida, where she
worked for a Daytona firm before opening her own practice in
1985 in Palm Coast, Florida. After only one year in Palm
Coast, Ms. Berns' firm grew so rapidly that she added a
partner and had a partnership law practice for eleven years.
In June, 1996, she moved her practice to the
Tampa Bay area where she practiced for ten years in both
Federal and State Courts. In December, 2006, Ms. Berns
relocated back to the greater Daytona Beach area to serve
Volusia, Flagler, St. John's and Duval Counties. Ms. Berns
continues to serve the Tampa Bay area as well.
Bonnie A. Berns is a member of the Florida
Bar, the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Florida
Employment Lawyers Association and the Volusia, Flagler and
St. John's County Bar Associations. She was named one of the
Outstanding Young Women in America in 1983. From, 1985 until
1986, she was appointed Vice Chair of the Florida Bar
Committee on the Elderly, and was a member of the Committee
from 1985 until 1991. From 1986-1995, she served as a member
of the Florida Bar Committee on Support Enforcement. Ms.
Berns was President of the Volusia Flagler National
Organization for Women from 1981 until 1991. She was the
Founder and President of the Holocaust Educational Center
for Volusia and Flagler Counties, Inc. Ms. Berns was also on
the Board of the Flagler County Domestic Abuse Shelter. For
many years, she was on the Florida Bar Family Law
Legislative Committee. From 2001 through 2005 Ms. Berns
served on the Individual Rights Committee of the Florida
Bar. Ms. Berns is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified
Circuit Civil Mediator and a Federally Certified Mediator.
She's a member of the Florida Academy of Professional
Mediators.
